CHEVY CLASSICS, ANNUAL 2008


I had received a call from Nick Licata (via our friend Steven Rupp) a little while back, regarding a rendering, and behold, it's on shelves now as a part of Super Chevy's "Chevy Classics" Annual! This is great, not only because I get the chance to show some forward-thinking ideas, but being a part of the whole Super Chevy history is HUGE to me personally. Growing up, the first magazine I had a subscription to was Super Chevy, and it fueled many a dream car in my imagination, most notably tri-fives! Obviously, I'm stoked to share my vision of an alternate take on the Projext X theme (which, ironically, is the cover car!) with some very modern and traditional ideas thrown in for some '56 Chevy stew. Grab a copy before 11/4, when they leave the shelves, and thanks again, Steven and Nick!

TRUCKIN' MAGAZINE, AUGUST 2008


I love throwing ideas around, especially when the person listening is completely open to new things. Such was the case a few months back when Dan Ward over at Truckin' contacted me about designing his personal project (more on that in the future), and we got to talking a bit. I had been working up a concept with my friends Tim and Craig, based on the old Datsun 510 Trans Am cars, and, well, that monster wound up in this month's Radical Renderings, along with the Ford F-100 that Tim over at Fast Eddie Hot Rod Shop had me whip up. It's always fun to supply some lines for that column, and I hope you'll check it out! Thanks again, Dan!

ROD & CUSTOM MAGAZINE, AUGUST 2008


I absolutely love creating artwork for the "Dream Car of the Month" in Rod and Custom Magazine. I dig it because it's not only the magazine I grew up dreaming of being published in, but the project affords a completely open-ended spectrum of creativity. For this go-round, I took the "dream" part literally, and scoured my subconscious for wild ideas.... What came from it all is a mish-mash of A/FX, gasser, funny car, street machine... You kinda have to see it to believe it.
As always, my sincerest gratitude to Mr. Bernsau and Mr. Lee for another spectacular opportunity! (and BTW, grab this issue even if you hate dream-inspired mash-up cars... the features this month are INCREDIBLE!!)

AMERICAN RODDER MAGAZINE, MAY 2008


Some time back, the good folks at Redneck Street Rods had contacted me to create a rendering for their new '33 Cabster bodies, which are an amazing design statement, based upon the '33/'34 Ford Cabriolet, but with some well-thought changes.
Suffice to say, our friends at Redneck opted to announce the release of the new bodies in American Rodder, and they were kind enough to throw in a shout to me, as well as my rendering. Thanks, Tim!

THE WORLD OF RODS, APRIL 2008


Being part opf anything up-and-coming is always a great and special thing, especially in an industry like this. Fortunately, I'm part of yet another, as the kind and talented Rich Boyd, editor of The World of Rods Magazine. took time to piece together a flattering profile on me, and some of my work! Check out the title, and watch as it grows... it's promising to be a great magazine, with some real variety...PCK Studio approved, to be certain!

HOT ROD MAGAZINE READER'S RIDES, SPRING 2008


Tom's wagon graced the pages one more time in Hot Rod, this time, appearing in their annual Reader's Rides issue, capturing the pick for "Best Buick". What more can be said about a killer, home-built wagon that gets some serious street use? Just that, again, I'm stoked to have been a part of the project, and thanks again for the mention, Tom!

CHEVY RUMBLE MAGAZINE, MARCH 2008


Wayne and Pam's Monte Carlo project got a little more ink this month by way of a press release, formally introducing the project. The car is a 1972 Monte Carlo that the fabulous duo behind M and M Hot Rod Interiors (www.mmhotrodinteriors.com) have owned since '84, and I was fortunate to have been given the nod to design a killer mild custom/pro-touring car from, and I think we really nailed something unique, and is a great match for their dynamic personalities and slick stich work.

TRUCK BUILDER MAGAZINE, FEBRUARY/MARCH 2008


Project "On the Run", a joint efffort with the good folks over at Bed Wood and Parts, got its first release into the press this month, showcasing the rendeering. The project, based on a '46 Chevy Delivery, promises to bring on some serious attention with the chop and section job, as well as a radical interior, and a blown/injected engine with a green thumb... The theme behind the concept is a street machine/custom that has its roots in the old moonshine runners of yesterday (...and that's why it runs on E-85... alcohol, basicaally!) Progressive? Yep. Able to run? Certainly. Can't wait to see it done? Me neither!

A bittersweet issue, to be certain... Freiburger's last with the title, and Tom's wagon makes a second appearance, this time not only finished, but chosen as "Best Buick" by the HR staff for their "Homebuilt Heros", celebrating the "Finest Owner-Built Hot Rods in America"! We're always happy to see both Tom and the wagon, and flat-out stoked to see it gain such accolades! Congrats, Tom, and enjoy the jacket!

A double-shot this issue! I was fortunate to land not only a Dream Car of the Month slot again (thanks, Steve!), but the coolest part was seeing Rod's '55 Chevy project granted a page in the "Under Construction" column! The car is pretty near and dear around the Studio, and a cooler car owner/builder you'd be hard-pressed to find. Check it out, and see more on Rod's ride HERE!

The November 2007 issue of DRIVE! Magazine represents something pretty spectacular in the history of Problem Child Kustoms Studio: Our first-ever print ad. It's a milestone here, as it brings to reality what we've been working day and night to achieve: A stable company with a public face, and the quality work to back it up. Look for more ads this coming year in other APG titles as well, and even some unexpected places, too, as we continue to push the envelope, and not only promote PCK Studio, but bring more awareness to our industry. Tom's Buick Special wagon received some more ink this month, capturing a Mother's Picture Perfect Award! While you can see the car in all of its glory at local shows and cruises (he drives this thing everywhere!), you can check out some build and design pics here on the site, as well.
This was a fun car to design with Tom, and we're proud of his acomplishments with the six-cylinder terror, and also proud to show that our cars grab ink on their own merit! A home-built car that definitely inspires you to go and do likewise.... So what are you waiting for?!

CUSTOM CLASSIC TRUCKS, SEPTEMBER 2007


This was one of those little surprises that just make your month! Christian's Hudson truck project (see progress here) scored a bit of ink (OK, full page!) in the September issue! This is great on a number of levels (notwithstanding that this made four magazines on the stand in one month with my doodles in 'em), most important being that Christian is such a great guy who is just utterly consumed by all things automotive, and it's a unique build with some very unique custom touches. It's a great story, and I'm psyched to bring you updates as it progresses, leading up to its completion. Thanks for the kind words and mention in the article, Christian!

August certainly seemedd like a media juggernaut from the Studio de Problem Child... Adding to the sweep was a news feature on John Kampeter's 1969 Camaro convertible project currently undeerway at Bright Built Hot Rods in Salina Kansas.
The LS7/4L65E/9-inch powered monster is currently being finished up, and readied for it's treck to our good friends over at Recovery Room Hot Rod Interiors for some new threads and pelts. We'll upodate the project soon, and cannot wait to see it debut!

TRUCKIN MAGAZINE, VOLUME 33, NO. 10


2007 has been great, and I went into the year on a mission: I wanted to nail down some serious work, and get the Studio name out there.
Thanks to guys like Mark at Truckin', I've been able to work towards my goal with a fever pitch! Mark had contacted me some time ago regarding the possibility of starting a new mini-feature in the magazine, where they'd present a new truck (or model, re-design, etc), and have an artist conceive a custom or aftermarket version... I was stoked about the idea, doubly-so when he asked if I'd do the first! If you have time check out my take on the new GMC Sierra Denali in this issue... It's an involved project, to say the least, but subtle enough to remain realistic, and it's a new direction in custom trucks... think "coachbuilt supertruck"

POPULAR HOT RODDING MAGAZINE, SEPTEMBER, 2007


I was contacted by Steven Rupp and asked to create a conceept for PHR's Dream Car of the Month, and immediately knew which direction to take... I had been considering the lowly (read as "overlooked") Mopar B-body from '73-up for some time, and thought this the perfect time to unleash on one. Tired of thee typical pro-touring recipe, I brought in street machine influences, custom bodywork, and even sports car flavor.
"Project Road Mauler" makes creative use of existing parts, junkyard parts, and adapts some aftermarket componentry to create a serious performance car for pennies on the dollar versus more "popular" models.... In short, it's everything I've been preaching on the home page!

When Tim from R-n-C contacted me to create a Dream Car of the Month feature, I was ecstatic. From my childhood, growing up reading the little pages through the magazine's departure (at a family friend's shop), I had dreams of being among the greats featured... In '89, when the title returned, the dream was fueled again. Thus, after dreaming for 20+ years, I am proud to have my work in that fine title!
I had created a couple of custom takes on a what-if car, a '55-'57 Oldsmobile Nomad-style car, the "Oldsmomad". Hopefully you'll get as much pleasure from seeing them as I did drawing them. It was well worth the wait, and thanks again, Tim!

KUSTOMGARAGE.IT ARTIST FEATURE


I never thought that my love for Italian design would be returned... much less by some great, die-hard Italian hot rodders! How cool is this: The great hot rod and custom community over at kustomgarage.it got a hold of me, and asked if they could feature some of my work... I was stoked! It's a very cool site, packed with info on builders, artists, cars... you name it! Thanks to the crew over there, Marco and Carlo, for the honor, and the well-written, flattering write-up. I'm stoked!

CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE, JULY, 2007


Some time back, I was fortunate to have met Cameron Day, who comissioned a rendering of his project "Ratiki", which was to be, in essence, a rolling calling card for his business, House O' Speed.com. He had a ton of ideas for the '65 'Burb that needed to be fleshed-out on paper, and I was happy to oblige! The rendering turned into a series of detailed sketches and finished drawings, and the completed piece has always been one of my favorites. Suffice to say, the finished truck gained a feature in Classic Trucks, and Cameron was kind enough to have the rendering featured as well, along with some great finished shots! Thanks again,m Cameron!

TRUCKIN' MAGAZINE, VOLUME 33, NO.6, 2007


The largest magazine devoted to trucks, and always a favorite read in the Studio, and I was honored to be a part of the legendary Radical Renderings feature... Joing the ranks of some of my heroes, both old and new was a blast, and Mark let me go to town on a couple of pieces. I created a radical Dodge A-100, as a tribute to the fun cars and wheelstanders that shaped my youth, and then turned my attention on a lat6e-model, seeking to breathe some performance into a phantom Ford. It was an honor, and a seriously fun time, stretching the imagination, and letting the pencils run wild for a bit. Thanks for the positive feedback so far!

DIESEL WORLD MAGAZINE MAY 2007



A cover and feature on the Chevy HD, designed here in the 'Studio for last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This was a quick-turnaround rendering and paint scheme design, and the two-tone scheme(with simple band graphic) were designed to highlight the truck's clean lines, and make the most impact of the lift and accessories. STREET THUNDER MAGAZINE MARCH/APRIL 2007


The National Street Machine Club cranks out one hell of a great read, and I was honored to be a part of it, supplying the visuals for a great debate on the 1955 Chevy vs 1955 Pontiac. The question centered on the popularity of the Chevy models, and why the Pontiacs seemed to fall into obscurity, while essentially sharing many of the same styling cues and parts. It was a blast drawing two bone-stock cars (and a challenge! Who'd have thunk that '55 Pontiac trim looks so good....on a Pontiac?)

A sad day indeed...
We're sure that you've heard the news, either via our front page blog here on the site, or through other means, but this was the final issuee of Custom Rodder Magazine. We were delighted to have our work in the front of the mag, with an announcement of the Galaxie project (at J2), which included our rendering. We also garnered some ink with our letter to Damon, offering thanks and praise for his fine work on the title.
We wish Damon the best as he moves to new pastures, and again, thanks for everything, Damon... we owe you!

STREET TRUCKS MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2007


Great all the way around...
Not only was it a great time re-working some brand-new Silverados in lifted form, but I shared the column with a great friend, Jason Rushforth. It was a collaborative effort, and it came on the heels of our recent efforts on the Lateral-G project Cutlass "S-Curve".
I went a slightly different route than the norm with my street version, bringing in styles from all across the board, transforming a simple lifted truck into part show truck, part hot rod, and part coach-built.designer machine. I then went pre-runner crazy on an extended cab, opting for a combination of raw power, streetability, and off-road terror...
Hope you enjoy them as much as I did drawing them!

CUSTOM RODDER JANUARY 2007


Happy New Year!
OK, so it's early, but you get our drift... We were called upon for some mid-50's rides, and figured what better response than some sectioned madness? Glad you agree.
We took the knife to a '56 Dodge Royal and a '56 Ford, simmered each over inspiration from Exner and Winfield, respectively, then topped each with stock roof heights, sectioned bodies, and a dose of high-calorie late-'50's, early-'60's show car flavor. The results are radical, and pleasing to the eye.
While the Dodge has quite a polarizing effect from the front view, the Ford is a bit more forgiving, and caves to modern flair with a set of big-inch billet rollers... It's a personal favorite, and created as an homage to the great Gene Winfield, who is featured a few pages away in his latest hall of fame induction.

RESTYLING MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2006


The SEMA issue of Restyling Magazine featured the Buick Lucerne designed by Problem Child Kustoms and shown at the 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas on the cover.
This was a simple and clean concept, featuring many small paint and trim details, as well as an aggresssive stance on Asanti Wheels. The idea here was to take the new Buick, and approach it from the "V.I.P." style of mild street customizing, while retaining the original Buick luxury feel.

THE JALOPY JOURNAL JULY 28, 2006


How cool is that??!!
Featured on what is, quite possibly the greatest automotive website in the world, and then to be mentioned in the same paragraph with someone whose work I sincerely admire.
Ryan at the Jalopy Journal (home of the H.A.M.B.) took a few moments, and gave some attention to us, namely our Disturbingly Kool line, with a killer story, and then, as he always manages to do, threw in a bit of history, giving some real-world clout to my doodle efforts. To express the gratitude felt for his attention on this would require a much more vast media than this web site, but suffice to say, it is heartfelt, genuine, and most appreciated.
If you've never witnessed the power of the H.A.M.B., or the existential knowledge that can be gleaned from the Jalopy Journal, then we urge you to go there now. It's one part history lesson, one part star-gazing, and all entertainment for your traditional rodding and custom-loving mind.

SUPER ROD MAGAZINE APRIL 2006



A four-page feature (plus some additional tech pages) featuring the Cadillac CTS-V, originally designed here in the 'Studio for this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas was on hand to greet you in this month's issue of Super Rod.
The Caddy features slick wo-tone paint work, a low, aggresssive stance, and the addition of a supercharger, should the stock machinery fail to impresss.
A clean design capitalized on the Cadillac's great styling, and was a nice take on a "gentleman's hot rod".

CUSTOM RODDER JANUARY 2006


This issue was, by far, the hardest to work on... Making the decision to re-work the 1963 Ford Galaxie fastback was a lofty task to begin with, having set out to make an already clean design, well... cleaner.
I went three directions here, as well, opting first for my take on the classic Bellflower look, but with a modern pro-touring approach. Sure, it packed whitewall tires (on low-profile, serious performance tires!), giant brakes, an electronic fuel-injected 406, and attitude, attitude attitude.
A nod to the Alexander Brothers' genius was made with my take on what would happen if the A-Bros. were magically transported to the present day... Using modern parts and materials, I created a show car that looked part 1963 and part 2006... Interesting results came from this, with a really slick car that inspired the front-end design on a current "real-life" project.
Finally, I went the "what if money was no object" route, and sliced, diced, and reached into the old road racing bag-o-tricks, and pulled out the nasty red roadster... it lacked nothing in terms of modern tricks, and certainly would be a multi-mortgage budget buster, to say the least.

HASPORT HONDA SEMA PROJECT CIVIC, OCTOBER 2005


I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Hasport on their 2005 SEMA project Cicic Si... not only because it was the year that Honda chose to unveil the new Civic Si at SEMA, but creating the renderings for the great cfrew at Hasport was an honor, and a real blast. The rendering was featured on Honda's SEMA Project vehicles micro site.

HASPORT HONDA RIDGELINE SEMA PROJECT, OCTOBER 2005


Again, working with the crew at Hasport, I had created the above rendering, also a feature on Honda's site. The Ridgeline was designed as a tow vehicle for the Civic Si above, both on matching wheels, and featuring the identical paint schemes.


CLASSIC TRUCKS SEPTEMBER 05


Having the opportunity to play with a truck (or three) is always a nice diversion, and I was given the opportunity to re-work the '55-'57 Chevy Cameo pickup... So, I took the truck in three directions: First, I went nostalgia happy, creating a truck that looked simpler than it really was, and attempted to capture that late '50's, early-60's show custom/shop truck look... Mild chop, mild section (above the beltline!), and body mods galore made for one very clean candy red and white hauler.
Next, I took one the mild route, with big hoops, 'bags, a clean shave, and a nice coat of green... Simple, slick, and very cost-conscious, this was one of my all-time favorites.
Finally, it just wouldn't be me without something a bit, shall we say, radical... I took the old Cameo all the way, chopping, channelling and sectioning the body before stretching the cab, laying the factory A-pillars back, and sweetening the whole monster with a taste of serious road race attitude. The mildly stretched wheel base added stability, and the overall look was clean, mean, and just looked like the bad apple of the bunch. The silver was a nod to the old international racing color code, and the thing just bleeds attitude.


CUSTOM RODDER JULY 05


This particular issue was a blast, having been given the opportunity to present my take on three cars from the muscle car era that areoften overlooked as being prime Custom Rod material. I chose a '66 Lincoln, and cranked loose on it with a full road race/pro-touring style, but with a twist: I opted to think out of the box, and stuffed a 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel between the frame rails, and threw as much attitude as I could at the big ol' boat.
Next up was a '68 Dodge Polara... Full-on show custom/concept car feel on this one, with all modifications giving a nod to classic Mopar styling... Drom the single-length tail lamp out back, to the glass-covered (a-la 300 letter cars) headlamps out front, clean on through to the Viper driveline...
Finally, a '69 Impala was chosen, and fitted with a heavily massaged Caprice front clip, chopped top, and severely reworked rear end treatment. It said street custom and street machine all in the same package.


4x4 BUILDER MAGAZINE MARCH 05



featuring the Jeep Liberty penned here in the 'Studio for SEMA Show 2004, which, coincidentally, was featrured center stage in MOPAR's impressive display, and later on Speed Channel. The Jeep was also on display at this year's Barret-Jackson Collector Car Auction.
