






| PROJECT "BOB". While, at times, the conversations between the Studio and Jeff and Jason at J2 Speed and Custom may have sounded like out-takes from a Bill Murray movie, the similarities end there. Why "Bob" then? The car needed a name, and, to be honest, some cheesy name wasn't gonna cut it. Moving on, Jason and Jeff located a clean '69 Camaro driver that was just begging for the Pro-Touring treatment. It couldn't have come at a better time, as work on Zero Gravity (the soon-to-be-unleashed '63 Galaxie box top, also sketched by Problem Child Kustoms Studio) was getting hot and heavy, and the decision to crank out a fast, fun project was in order. We began with a couple of sketches, feeling out the stance (note, that for quite possibly the first time in recorded history, that the finished car sits lower than the rendering!), the color, hood and bumper treatments, etc. We then toyed with interior ideas, and J2 turned us loose to design something unique for the dash, which they took and fabricated in steel. The underpinnings are all top-notch stuff, including a Detroit Speed and Engineering (DSE) front coil-over conversion (with Koni coil-overs) attached to a set of DSE upper and lower control arms, as well as a DSE sway bar. DSE subframe connectors lead us back to the DSE Quadra-Link rear suspension (featuring QA1 coil-overs). Stopping all of this are Wilwood Superlite 4 piston calipers with 13" drilled and slotted rotors front and rear, plumbed with stainless steel lines... all riding on Intro Pentia wheels mounted on Dunlop SP9000 tires (255X40X18's up front, and 295X40X20's out back in the mini-tubs). Under the hood resides a Chevy 496 big block featuring goodies like a Scat crank, h-beam rods, SRP/JE 9.0:1 pistons, Dart Heads, Comp Cams shaft, lifters and springs, an AED - 850 HO Modified carb, an ultra-slick Billet Specialties V-Trac system, AFCO Aluminum radiator & electric fan, custom headers black ceramic coated, blowing spent fuel to Flowmaster 40 series mufflers, 3" dual piping all ceramiccoated black. Shifting chores are delegated to a TKO500 - 5spd tranny, utilizing a Centerforce Dual Friction 2 clutch, w/Mcleod Hydraulic throwout bearing, turning the custom chromoly 3" driveshaft, and finally dumping all that power to the Ford 9" loaded with 4.10 gears, tru-trac lsd and Moser axles. Heading inside, we find the entire interior and trunk have been lovingly covered in Dynamat, there are custom seats front and rear, featuring charcoal leather with silver suede inserts, over custom charcoal carpet. Those custom door panels are one-off's, and the kick panels have 6" Rockford Fosgate speakers. The custom rear deck with 6" Rockford Fosgate speakers and HD backup camera all feed to and from the Panasonic CQ-6503 headunit w/6.5" screen. Electric Life power windows, power locks, and custom power trunk lock hint at the luxury found in a proper Pro-Touring car. The custom dash and 3 gauge floating pod are the culmination of the original sketches and the metal artistry of the brothers J2. Classic Instruments Gauges, a Billet Specialties "Indy" steering wheel, DSE billet shift knob, custom A- pillar covers and a custom headliner round out the guts... And last, but not least, is the first thing you see... the body. Cactus Metallic paint covers the body, which features shaved marker lights, drip rails, locks, rear license plate, fuel door, and side mirrors, filled front valance grills, a smoothed custom rear bumper tucked intothe body, and a flat, stock hood! Marquez rear taillights, and front parking lights new halogen head lights round out the exterior mods, and provide slick form and great function. The car debuted at the Goodguy's Nationals in Columbus this July, and hasn't sat still since! |
